A Beginner's Guide to Tarot: Trust Your Intuition

Tarot cards are a powerful tool for self-reflection and guidance. Each deck is a unique storyteller, and with a little practice and trust in your own inner voice, you can unlock its wisdom. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to start your journey as a Tarot reader.
Getting Ready: Your Simple Ritual
1. Relax and Find Your Center. Before you begin, find a quiet space. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to relax. The goal is to quiet your mind so your intuition can speak to you clearly. You can close your eyes and ask your guides, ancestors, or angels to help you with the reading.
2. Clear Your Deck's Energy. Your cards absorb energy from everyone who touches them. To prepare for your reading, it's important to clear this residual energy. You can do this by:
Holding the deck in your left hand and knocking on it three times with your right.
Holding the deck to your heart and visualizing it being surrounded by warm, white light.
3. Ask Your Question With your deck in your hands, ask a question silently or out loud. Be as specific as you can. If you don't have a specific question, simply ask, "What do I need to know right now?" As you ask, imagine your words flowing into the deck.
The Reading: Shuffling & Interpreting
4. Shuffle and Cut the Deck Shuffle your deck while repeating your question. Trust your intuition to tell you when you're done. You can cut the deck into two piles with your left hand, then either choose a card from the top of the right pile or place the cut pile on top and choose the first card. Alternatively, you can fan the cards out and simply choose the one that calls to you. There is no wrong way—just trust your gut!
5. Read Your Card Flip over your card and take note of your first impressions. This is your intuition speaking!
Initial Feelings: What physical sensations or emotions do you feel? Do you feel calm, anxious, or excited?
Visual Cues: Look at the image. What colors stand out? What does the figure or animal look like? Are there any symbols or shapes that catch your eye? What story is the card telling you?
Intuitive Connection: Ask yourself, "What is the very first thing that comes to mind?" Write down or say your impressions out loud. Don't worry about getting it "right." Your initial feeling is the most important part of the reading.
(Note: If a card is upside down, don't fret! This simply means you may need to focus more on the card's message or work on that particular area of your life.)

Closing Your Reading
6. Give Thanks. After your reading, hold your deck close to your heart. Silently thank your deck for the insights and guidance it has offered. This simple act of gratitude honors the spiritual connection you've made.
Remember, Tarot cards are here to provide guidance, not to dictate your future. They offer a guideline for you to navigate life's choices with clarity and confidence. The more you practice, the more you'll learn to trust your own powerful intuition.
